What stages of development exist? First stage is discussion of a technical specification. Second stage is discussion of the timelines of project implementation and preparation of the commercial offer. Third stage is settling of an invoice. Fourth stage is project development and testing. Fifth stage is warranty term. Sixth stage is post-warranty service (optional).
What is warranty term? Warranty term starts immediately after the development. This is a stage when a customer receives the program and can tests it. During the warranty term we promise to correct all the inconsistencies against the technical specification and we can make small unplanned changes in the program logic upon the customer’s request. That is free of cost.
How is the warranty term determined? Warranty term is normally twice as long as the timeline of project development. E.g., if the timeline of project development takes 2 weeks, then the warranty term is 4 weeks. Warranty term can be extended half as much based on customer’s request.
What the technical specification should be?
There are no particular requirements to a technical specification; main point is that it should enable the project implementation without clarifying any additional details.
Example of incorrect writing:
«When uptrend then open buy». There is no clear definition of trend; hence the logic implementation is impossible.
Example of correct writing:
«Open Long position when Simple Moving Average with period 30 crosses Simple Moving Average with period 15 from below» or «Open Long position when SMA30 crosses SMA15 from below». The logic is clearly written and can be implemented in terms of programming.
What is the minimum timeline of development? If the project is small, the timeline of its implementation may take just few hours. But in addition to the implementation the project has to be tested, and probably tested not with the historical data only but real-time tested as well. It may take a lot more time than the development itself. Hence, the official minimum timeline of a project implementation is 1 week (5 business days). We do not strive to beat the speed records, our task is quality.
